Art Gallery O-68 presents work by Rinke Nijburg, along with his soulmate and 20 former students who studied with Nijburg or learned from him in other ways: Alexandra Arshanskaya, Aline Eras, Anan Striker, Art van Triest, Bart Pols, Catherine Dors, Engel P. Luck, Frank Blommestijn, Gerda ten Thije, Jeroen Glas, Lieneke Hulshof, Louise te Poele, Michiel van der Werf, Mirka Farabegoli, Pelle Nijburg, Roos van der Vliet, Roos van Dijk, Roos van Haaften, Sietse Hagenbeek, Simone Albers, Susanne Sorensen, and Toyah van de Ven.
Rinke Nijburg is one of the artists featured in the exhibition “Being a Girl*?!” at Lentos Kunstmuseum Linz, Austria, from October 31, 2025, to April 6, 2026, https://www.lentos.at/en/exhibitions/maedchen-sein. Lentos is an international museum with a reputation for high-quality, timely, and thought-provoking international, high-profile socio-political themes. Works by more than 100 world-renowned artists, both deceased and living, are included in this exhibition. https://www.gallery-o-68.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/ kunstenaars-‘Being-a-Girl-1.pdf
Furthermore, this year marks Nijburg’s 25th anniversary of teaching at the academy. The first year was at the Minerva Academy in Groningen (2000-2001), and since 2001, at ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem, the Fine Art Institute, and the DBKV. These two factors are the reason for Art Gallery O-68 to now give Nijburg a platform together with his soulmate and 20 of his former students.
A Syzygy is an arrangement where two or more planets, stars, etc., are in a straight line. This situation creates extra energy. For example, when the moon is in Syzygy with the sun and Earth, noticeable gravitational effects can occur. The exhibition is a Syzygy and the opening occurred during a Syzygy. MAGIC!
Nijburg is certainly not concerned with the ‘influence’ he has had. He feels privileged to have met and experienced these artists and to have been able to coach them a little on their journey through the galaxies. He says: “It’s never about transmitting. I rather try to suppress that all-too-human urge, because one-way transmission is more likely to be harmful than harmless. The most beautiful thing is receiving and transmitting simultaneously, which also helps me on my pilgrimage through the cosmos.” The exhibition therefore presents a diverse picture, in which each artist primarily follows their own path.
